The New York Times recently tried to define, or at least manifest, the sundress. Readers were asked to consider sundresses in four dimensions: color/fabric, tightness, (lack of) sleeves, and length.
The majority of respondents seems to think that color-wise, “Anything goes, but the most important thing is fabric (no wool, obviously)” (62% agree); a sundress should also be “Loose and flowy, but too oversize may veer into caftan territory” (97% agree) but its “Length doesn’t matter.” Opinions on sleeve type are almost split down the middle, with a slim majority (54%) saying “Sleeves are fine, as long as you show a lot of clavicle.”
By those metrics, this floaty and no-frills SAUKOLE tank dress is a 10/10 sundress, and feels most at home paired with strappy sandals or espadrilles. And the price point won’t make you feel bad about wearing it over a wet swimsuit or about accidentally getting ketchup stains on it. But I wish it were 100% linen or cotton, instead of a wrinkle-prone polyester, even if its price will quadruple.
The fit is large to size; size down unless you have more curves.
