Cropped Trench + Tie Waist Pant

Happy Monday!

I want to quickly highlight a few items in my closet that are now on sale:

First, the BP. Crop Trench Coat featured in this post. I probably would not have recommended it at full price, but it’s now 40% off and finally at a price point that I feel is reasonable. The material is lackluster and the fit oversized, but if you are looking for an affordable crop swing trench coat, this is an inoffensive option.

Hundreds of new styles have been marked down at Nordstrom; my picks:

BP. Crop Trench Coat in Beige Nougat (size XXS) || H&M V-neck Satin Camisole Top (past season) || LOFT Skinny Tie Waist Pants (size 00P) || Salvatore Ferragamo Ginny Leather Bow Shoulder Bag || J. Crew Academy Loafers in Leather

And the Skinny Tie Waist Pants (fits true to size; last seen here) from this post are still available online in most petite sizes in two colors. Along with other sale styles at LOFT, it is now an extra 50% off (full-price styles are 40% off) with code BFFS for a limited time.

Some other LOFT sale picks:

And finally, a sale that is ending tonight that’s worth mentioning: sale styles at Ann Taylor are an extra 60% off, no code needed (but some styles are final sale so be sure to read reviews). My picks (I highly recommend the Cargo Joggers):

Review: J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat

J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat in Bright Butternut  (size 00P) || J. Crew Striped Crewneck Sweater with Side Snaps (size XXS) || Zara Skirt with Gold Buttons in Navy (size XS) || Salvatore Ferragamo Medium Grained Leather Bow Shoulder Bag in Mirto || J.Crew J. Crew Academy Leather Loafers in Bittersweet Chocolate

J. Crew’s mounting financial woes and frequent leadership changes finally led it to do the one thing that it previously shunned: reintroduce/recycle old designs. Why it waited this long to open its cavernous vault of past hits eludes me. In any case, I am on board this nostalgia train as I missed out on nearly all of its early-aughts bestsellers.

The “iconic” style that caught my eye immediately is The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat that I know well, having come across archived images of it from the Style Guide on Pinterest. J. Crew made some adjustments to the original design that I am indifferent to, like adding a detachable hood and removing some accent seams.

To keep the price of the coat under $300 (retail is $298), J. Crew is using a version of the “stadium-cloth wool” that is 70% wool and 30% nylon, and slightly thinner than some of my older “stadium-cloth” coats. It’s plenty warm despite the lower wool content, though.

I ordered the style in two colors–“Bright Butternut,” a canary yellow, and “Heather Beige,” which is a beige with pink undertones (it reminds me of my “Dusty Giner” Chateau Parka)–and in my usual size (00P). I thought it ran slightly small and short (though the length may have been intentional). I like my coats to end just above the knee, but this style hits at mid-thigh. While I already have a number of bright yellow coats, the style in Bright Butternut was a keeper for me, though in retrospect I probably should’ve exchanged it for a size in regular length.

(The coat in 00P measures about 30″ in length, and 17.25″ from underarm to underarm, with sleeves that are 22.25″ long.)

J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat || Heather Beige|| Size 00P

While debating which of the two colors to keep, I decided to play dress up which resulted in some photos. Here are some ideas for how one might wear this coat.

J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat in Heather Beige (size 00P) || Ann Taylor Cable Turtleneck Sweater (past season) || H&M Super Skinny Low Jeans in Dark Gray Denim (size 24/30) || Miu Miu Vitello Lux Large Bow Bag (past season) || Sperry For J.Crew Shearwater Buckle Boots In Colorblock Champagne Pebble (past season)
J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat in Heather Beige (size 00P) || Zara Contrast Guipure Top in Ecru (size XS) || H&M Faux Leather Pants (past season) | Chanel Medallion Tote || c/o Marc Fisher Aprille High Heel Dress Booties
J. Crew The 2007 Italian Stadium-Cloth Wool Toggle Coat in Bright Butternut  (size 00P) || Ann Taylor Cropped Cable Sweater (past season) || H&M Super Skinny Low Jeans in Dark Gray Denim (size 24/30) || Sorel Winter Fancy Lace II Warm Waterproof Boots in Elk/Grizzly Bear (also here, here, and here)

J. Crew is running a 30% off storewide sale this weekend (use code GOSHOP at checkout) so now’s a good time to order this coat if you are interested, as most sizes have started to sell out.

More sale picks: Academy Loafers in Leather, Sweater with Ruffle Sleeves, Gingham car coat, The 2008 Andover Peacoat in Italian Wool, Gingham One-Shoulder Ruffle Top, Button-Front Puff-Sleeve Top, Lady Jacket with Fringe Hem, Tie-Waist Short with Bees, and Field Trench Coat.

Red Wool Trench

Around this time every year is when I would start to complain incessantly about the cold, and vow to move somewhere subtropical. So I found it alarming that (so far) I’ve felt no urge to complain or plot my move. For the first time in a while, I really (really!) love late fall, frosted windshield in the morning and all.

My colorful coats therapy must be working… who can stay ornery in a vibrant red coat for long?

Zara Batwing Sleeve Sweater in Ecru (size S) || J. Crew Icon Trench Coat in Italian Wool Cashmere in Bright Red (size 000P; reviewed here) || ASOS Scalloped Skirt (size 2; current season here) || Burberry Heritage Giant Check Cashmere Scarf (reviewed here) || Burberry Medium Banner House Check Leather Tote in Light Grey Melange || Stuart Weitzman 5050 Over-the-Knee Stretch Boots (reviewed here)

Speaking of things that make me happy: Zara has been a gold mine this fall. I struggled to shop there from spring to late summer, but have found a lot to love since its pre-fall collection dropped. One item that I really like from my Black Friday haul is this batwing sleeve sweater, which I now want in all four colors. It is soft, loose in the best way, and is so fun to wear (this outfit doesn’t showcase the batwing sleeves, but they legitimately made me feel like a bat, which is a pretty amusing thing to imagine).

There are almost too many styles to recommend, so I would encourage you to pop into a store and try some things on. I plan to blog about them eventually, but doubt that I’ll get to them all before sizes sell out. Keep your eyes peeled for the following: cable knit sweater (I am thisclose to ordering ten more of these), frilled skirt, frilled tweed dress, and lace top (I own this in all three colors and duplicates in green).

And until 12/7, earn up to $700 in Saks Fifth Avenue gift cards (on purchases over $3000) with code DEC2016. The boots, bag, and scarf from this post all qualify for this promotion. Use code HOLIDAY for free shipping and free returns.

Other picks: Rebecca Taylor Tweed Peplum Jacket, Stuart Weitzman Highland Suede Over-The-Knee Boots, Chloé Drew Mini Leather Saddle Crossbody Bag, and Saint Laurent Baby Sac De Jour Leather Tote.

Review: Club Monaco Scalloped Dresses + Drapey Trenches

Sharing some pictures and a few words in time for the current Club Monaco sale (details here).

ITEM Avaline Scalloped Dress, available in two colors

MATERIAL 100% Polyester and lined. The lightly textured crepe-like material is wrinkle-resistant.

FIT Slightly small in the bust area for Club Monaco; see size chart here.
Size 00 normally fits half a size to a full size big on me, but this
style was a close fit in the torso. I would recommend ordering up
a size if you are busty.

Avaline Scalloped Dress // Size 00 // Daisy

ITEM Colby Scalloped Dress, available in three colors. Previously reviewed here.

MATERIAL 100% Polyester and lined.

FIT True to size for Club Monaco; see size chart here.

Colby Scalloped Dress // Size 00 // Lily Pink

ITEM Hanne Trench Coat, available in three colors.

MATERIAL 100% Lyocell (Shell) and 100% Polyester (Lining). It is not wrinkle-resistant, so you will need to steam it before wear and hang it to minimize wrinkling.

FIT Sizes run XS-L. The style is intended to be oversized, so depending on your preference, you may want to consider sizing down or taking your normal size.

Hanne Trench Coat // Size XS // Khaki Stone

I decided to keep the Hanne Trench Coat in “Shadow,” a dark gray (slightly darker in real life).
