Boden Ledbury Pea Coat

Winter is coming and I’m bracing myself for another snowmageddon. Few things motivate me to get dressed in the morning more than really pretty coats. As such, I’ve allocated the bulk of my clothing budget for the year to coat purchases (I am all for cheap thrills but coats are serious business for those who spend any time outside in New England winters) and recently ordered the Burberry Sandringham Fit Cashmere Trench Coat (14 gorgeous colors!), the Relaxed Fit Wool Cashmere Coat, Wool Cashmere Trench Coat, and Tailored Wool Cashmere Coat (only keeping one, max two, of these).

Also keeping my fingers crossed for the Kensington Fit Cashmere Trench Coat to be restocked in my size. For those with more disposable income than me, please get the English Lace Trench Coat so I can live vicariously through you.

Happy shopping!

a welter of packages from my turkey day haul scattered on my floor,
much of it unopened, the only package that I tore open immediately was
one from Madewell. I had been using the medium YSL Cabas Chyc Bag as my primary luggage for shorter trips but it occasionally felt insufficient in size. Madewell’s
Transport Weekender is better suited for someone of my packing proclivities.

I will share a more thorough review of the Weekender in a future post. In the meantime, leave me a comment below if you have any questions.

And a quick sale bit about one of my favorite purchases of late: the Kimchi Blue Cozy Mid-Calf Duster Coat, on sale for 30% off today.

The price point is high for its all polyester composition but I really like the style and haven’t found anything similar that I liked as much as this (missed out on this Forever 21 iteration which was more affordable; ). I tried on the coat in size S (shown below) in-store several weeks ago but find the XS a much better fit.

A few other picks from Urban Outfitters, select styles are 30% off and sale items are an additional 25% off: Olive & Oak Elbow-Patch Cardigan, Animal Ears Cable-Knit Beanie, BB Dakota Lillian Vegan Leather Jacket, BDG Waxed Hunting Jacket, BDG Striped Boyfriend Sweater, and Silence + Noise Vegan Leather + Fleece Moto Jacket.

Happy shopping!

All of us own a few things that we never tire of; one of mine is this J. Crew coat (circa 2011). It’s one of those rare duplicate purchases (I also own it in caramel) that, in hindsight, can be justified.

My mood brightens significantly when I wear it and it remains one of my best outerwear purchases to date.

J. Crew Townhouse Trench | J. Crew Keeper Chambray Shirt | Burberry Giant Check Cashmere Scarf | H&M  Super Skinny Super Low Jeans | Prada Saffiano Lux Double-Zip Tote | Dolce Vita Madison Pumps

In that vein, other components of this outfit are also items I continue to adore and wear repeatedly.

No weekly shopping update has been planned for this week but I do want to share a Forever 21 sale that I consider interesting. Take 50% off sale items with code EXTRA50. I liked these: Tri-Color High Neck Sweater, Longline Pullover, Perforated Workout Capris, Statement-Making Jaguar Flats, High-Waisted Run Leggings, Prep School Varsity Jacket, Sweetheart Skinny Workout Capris, and Drawstring Skinny Workout Leggings.

All sales are final so proceed with caution.

My race against time continues (Can anyone believe it’s already December? this year passed in a blink).

What will I miss most about my fall wardrobe? The trench coats, of course! With a cable cardigan layered under the trench, this outfit kept me toasty (enough) to wander around town on a mid-50’s day. Bare legs be damned.

I am currently wrestling with the decision to keep trench coats on the hanger and
use the next few months to learn how to layer them adequately for New
England winters. Or maybe that’s just unnecessary. We’ll see
how far my adventurous spirit (a.k.a. insanity) will take this.

(outfit obviously from slightly warmer days. When will the NE see mild weather again?)

And now a review of the Kate Spade New York Abstract Signature Bow Medium Harmony Tote.

I did my best (I tried! really, I did) to resist this tote but I have been so beguiled by Kate Spade’s signature abstract bow print that I
now own three things in this one easily identifiable print.

I have few kind words to say about the bag aside from the beautiful exterior print. The only compliment I can manage is “it’s so pretty! look at the print…BOWS!” Take away the print and it’s suddenly ordinary.

This bag and similar styles (review forthcoming) will mesh with and serve best those who wear few prints and dress in neutrals.

It has its share of shortcomings but the print is the veneer that conceals all imperfections.

Dock one point for no top zippers. You do have the option of closing the gap between the walls with a centrally located top lobster claw closure, whose usefulness I seriously question.

There is one pocket on either wall of the interior but there is no other compartmentalization built into the bag. If your organizational tendency is guided by the law of entropy, it’d be wise to invest in a handbag organizer ($, $$, $$$).

The bag measures 16″ wide at the top, 15.5″ tall, and about 7″ deep and weighs a little under two pounds.

The flat base allows the bag to stand on its own, even empty, and the bag is constructed out of grainy vinyl (with patent leather trim) which seems to hold its shape, at least initially (will update if I discover issues with use). I would be careful not to crush the bag and risk permanently changing its shape.

The inside is only partially lined.

Buy the Kate Spade Abstract Signature Bow Medium Harmony Tote at Amazon, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Zappos.

This bag can be found in a check pattern, leopard print, solid red, solid pink, solid purple, solid black, gray print with racer stripes, neon yellow, robin egg blue, and solid gray.

Also available in a smaller size, which measures 10″x12″x6″ (mine is a medium, I don’t think a larger size is currently available).
