Strangely, or I suppose it’s just seasonable, whenever I wear this ensemble
to lunch, a snow storm would descend upon an otherwise
forecast-to-be-dry day. Sure, it’d be cold (maybe it’s punishment for my
dressing so inappropriately for the weather) but there would be no
other indications of precipitation.
But I am really tired of the snow so this ensemble will not be repeated for another year.
And I am really excited to share this Everlane silk blouse with rounded collar with you all. It is by far the best white blouse I own (and I own many) and is no worse off, quality-wise, than pricier Equipment blouses (will write a post comparing the two).
The rounded collar, of which I am an impassioned fan, is an equitable compromise between a traditional pointed collar and the more youthful peter pan collar.
blouse in white is semi-sheer but with flesh-toned undergarments,
sheerness is a nonissue (it’s probably difficult to gauge opaqueness from these pictures; I was wearing tan thermals under the blouse).
For those of you similar to me in size, the blouse in XS fit me without glaring fit issues (sleeves can stand to be shortened slightly) and
should transition work and weekend wear well.
This blouse is available with pointed collars (11 colors) and banded collars (14 colors) as well, if those styles suit you better.
And this outfit is not possible without my favorite blog friends: the reviews of trusty Jean (necklace and shoes) and Cee (clutch and blouse) and the generosity of S (while this is the skirt’s first blog feature, it has been worn repeatedly to pretty much any occasion that calls for a touch of sheen).
I casually touched on the idea of a linchpin accessory in my last outfit post and wanted to elaborate on this concept which I feel has improved many of my outfits in the last year. While belts are not a panacea for all outfit ills, they, along with jewelry, gloves, handbags, coats, and scarves, can elementally transform otherwise humdrum outfits.
For those of you who have a substantial vault of basics, linchpin accessories ought to be next on your acquisition list. And they need not be eccentric or esoteric; a healthy dose of the unexpected will suffice.
And, in many instances, a linchpin accessory isn’t necessarily extraordinary on its own; when it works it complements by creating a visual diversion or illusion. And context does matter. A black bag is perhaps more jarring against the backdrop of a colorful ensemble relative to one with a fairly tonal composition.
The predictable can be boring and I often struggle to break the mold because the predictable is also the most comforting. For me, fun accessories help to reduce some of that dreaded monotony.
And on that note, let’s segue into some sale news (happens to be one I am rather excited about).
Theory’s online warehouse sale has begun and I had a lot of fun browsing it; the discount hovers around the 70-80% off range which is stellar because Theory prices can be prohibitive at retail.
Here are my picks: Theyskens Theory Drisse Fuminous Dress, Theory Ress NC Arbiter Shirt, Jitane Jacket in Foh, Theyskens Theory Dasta Fruma Dress, and Theory Janya Edgewood Skirt.
My bow spree continues with the purchase of this Kate Spade Bow Tie Scarf, the third style and fourth item in this print that I now own. It is inexplicable why I am so drawn to this pattern and couldn’t resist adding more of it to my collection but the damage has been done and luckily, this purchase has proven useful.
Playful accents liven up more mundane ensembles so I happily make this recommendation. The only conceivable drawback I want to note is that it’s difficult to tell that the pattern on the scarf is of bows when it’s worn.
A similar scarf in infinity form can be found here, here, here, and here.
And I want to quickly share two great sales:
Until midnight, take 70% off select sale items at LOFT, no code needed. My picks: Tipped Four Pocket Open Cardigan, 3/4 Sleeve Cable Sweater, Colorblocked Cable Sweater, and Lurex V-Neck Cable Sweater.
And Zara further discounted its sale merchandise. Consider these: Cotton Crossover Parka and Studio Duffle Coat. Both styles are still available in all sizes. A few other styles that are interesting include the Studio Jacket with Golden Button, Tuxedo Collar Blazer, Double Breasted Jacket with Zips, Checked Duffle Coat, Short Double Breasted Overcoat, Blazer with Gathered Shoulders, Quilted Crossover Jacket, Checked Studio Cape, Checked Coat, and Short Coat with Pockets.
January is always an exciting month for bargain hunters as swarms of end-of-season sales commandeer retailer front pages.
I tell myself it’s all anticlimactic from here so it’s ok to indulge a little.

If 2013 had a theme, it would be green. And it’s a color I will never tire of.
