I am drawn to accessories that can double as comfort objects, like plushy (faux) fur coats and huggable, oversized bags. And it was for this reason that I bought the FP Movement Quilted Carryall, but this pillowy bag is more than a security blanket, it’s also become my gym bag and is capacious enough for travel.
MATERIAL & DETAILS
The Quilted Carryall Bag has become a perennial bestseller for Free People and is available in a dizzying array of colors (it’s currently sold in 28 colorways online, but new colors become available every few weeks). The material, which FP describes as a “textile,” is 100% polyester, and not particularly stain or dirt prone.
There are two exterior zip pockets that are functional enough to store a larger smartphone and other objects to which you will want quick-access, and one major compartment with a full top zip closure.
SIZE
This unstructured carryall measures about 17 inches in width and about 6 inches in depth; it holds a lot, but doesn’t offer many internal organization options, so be prepared with your own wet bags and travel pouches. Note that this bag will look oversized on someone petite, but the look has grown on me the more I wear it. Free People now offers a number of other bags in this style if you want something that you can wear on your back or prefer something a little smaller.
Because the shoulder strap is fixed in length, when the bag is near capacity, the bag may become uncomfortable or cumbersome to wear for those who have a smaller or shorter frame. But if you have a shorter torso, the shoulder strap is long enough for you to wear it as a crossbody bag for an additional carry option.
PRICE
The $68 list price feels extremely affordable for this reasonably well-made bag, even if the material doesn’t feel particularly luxurious. If you are looking for a fun gym bag that will fit everything you need on a longer outing (and a little extra), give this bag a try.
