I went to a pet adoption event recently and, against my better judgment and moderate cat allergy, lost myself for an hour just petting and holding some super cute cats. Then my eyes turned bright red, signaling it was time to leave.
I had the good sense to wear a machine-washable puffer jacket that day, so any experienced discomfort wasn’t prolonged by having to get cat dander out of a wool coat.

I got the cropped version of this red short puffer jacket from Amazon earlier this year and have been wearing it multiple times a week. It’s not as dramatically puffy as Aritzia’s The Mega Puff™ and is priced at a fraction of the excellent Wunder Puff Cropped Jacket (which I would still recommend for the removable hood and water-repellent exterior).
Its lack of a weather-shielding hood may be a dealbreaker for some, but if you just moved somewhere with moderately cold but dry winters, and need a new jacket, this one comes in 10+ versatile colorways and has roomy zippered pockets.
