Off-Season Shopping

When I get home from early-morning jogs drenched in sweat, I know it’s time to shop for cold-weather gear. As I’ve been doing a fair amount of off-season shopping, I want to share some recent finds and purchases here.

+ FP Movement Hit the Slopes Fleece Jacket in Bright Forest (reviewed here): With the latest addition, I now own four of these medium-weight jackets from Free People; but I wear them all enough to justify having so many copies of the same design. “Bright Forest,” which is currently ~50% off at Dick’s Sporting Goods (but is still full price at FP), is a medium green that pairs as easily with brighter tones as it does neutrals.

+ Franco Sarto Tribute Knee High Boot (40% off at Amazon): I own these boots in two colorways, and find the 2-3/4″ block heels and square toe extremely forgiving on my wider feet. While I have mixed feelings about the faux leather shaft–it’s pliable which adds to the comfort factor but the quality is lackluster–on the whole I think these are very practical boot, especially now that they are 40% off.

+ Canada Goose Abbott Packable Hooded 750 Fill Power Down Jacket (50% off at 24S in black): The Abbott Hoody is an evergreen style for Canada Goose so I was surprised to see it marked down in black at 24S (which is owned by LVMH so product authenticity isn’t normally an issue). This jacket is extremely travel friendly so if you don’t already own a shorter puffer, this is a very solid option to consider.

+ UGG Classic Cardi Cabled Knit Boot (40% off in two colorways at Amazon and Zappos): I retired my favorite knit boots at the end of winter, and decided to give these UGG boots a try despite their poor reviews–many reviewers cite the decline in quality from the original “Cardy” to this mediocre replacement; others took issues with the seemingly useless side zipper which caused discomfort in some wearers. This boot isn’t for you if you have hopes that it can exceed or perfectly replace your favorite knit UGGs, but I personally think the construction was fine and I didn’t experience any of the fit issues that came up in reviews. YMMV.

Happy shopping!
