Review: UGG Coquette Slipper vs UGG Scuffette II Slipper Side

One happy consequence of being an UGG enthusiast is that I am showered with shearling during the holiday season. Earlier this winter, family members gifted me the Coquette Slipper and the Scuffette II Slipper Side, two UGG bestsellers.

At first glance, both shoes look like bedroom slippers, but the Coquette has a sturdier, lugged outsole that provides support and lifts the wearer off the ground, while the Scuffette II is a true house slipper.

CONSTRUCTION & MATERIAL

Both slippers have structured suede uppers with shearling lining and insoles. There are no apparent quality issues at the outset, but if you own older pairs of UGG shoes that are shearling lined, you’ll notice an unmistakable decline in quality–the shearling upper and lining just feel less fluffy and pack down much faster than they used to.

The molded rubber soles on the Scuffette II have close to no traction, which is fine as it’s meant to be an indoor-only shoe. The Coquette, however, is meant to be somewhat outdoor durable, so has the UGG signature Treadlite outsole. I still wouldn’t wear these on on an icy terrain, but they are fine for wet or hard surfaces.

FIT

Both shoes fit true to size but are only available in whole sizes. If you are in between sizes, try the next size up. The round toes are forgiving on wider feet and the open-heeled design makes them easy to slip on and off.

PRICE

The UGG Coquette Slipper retails for $120 and the UGG Scuffette II Slipper Side is $95 at full price. I probably wouldn’t have bought them for myself, as $95-$120 is a lot to spend on slippers for someone who prefers to lounge in slipper socks.

While seasonal colors go on sale for both shoes, “classic” colorways–Black, Grey, Espresso, and Chestnut–generally stay full price.

STYLING

I have been eager to try the leg warmers (thank you, Balletcore) with fuzzy slippers look (result TBD) so the Coquette Slipper is perfect to experiment with. But these slippers are otherwise just plain (but perfectly functional and warm) slippers that are hard to dress up further.
