After a warm start to winter, temperatures finally fell below freezing with the start of a new year. On the coldest mornings, I don’t leave the house without a full-length puffer or the UGG Gertrude Double Breasted Teddy Coat, the subject of today’s post.
I wasn’t impressed with the Gertrude at first–the material was bulky and the sherpa lacking–but the coat’s exceptional warmth swayed me.
The $268 price tag would normally be unreasonable for a 100% polyester (both shell and lining) coat but the Gertrude is very substantial–a far cry from typically flimsy polyester coats. While I’ve seen faux shearling done with more polish, in terms of appearance, even at this price point, I am happy to trade a degree of polish for added comfort and warmth.
If you are looking for a truly warm teddy coat, this is it. Just know what this coat is not: it is not lightweight; it is not water-resistant; and it will not be easy to pack.
The fit is oversized so those with smaller frames can consider sizing down, but the relaxed fit has grown on me, and I occasionally use it as a blanket when my lighter throw blanket isn’t up to the task.
