One new addition to my formidable army of winter coats is the impressive Banana Republic Pura Oversize Wool-Cashmere Wrap Coat; this instantly-chic piece will elevate even the most basic or casual of ensembles.
There was a time when I demanded that every wool coat in my closet be tailor-fitted to my body, but during the brutal “Your Coat Is Your Whole Outfit” season, the Pura’s relaxed fit will enable it to easily glide over multiple layers; it also has large enough side pockets to accommodate gloved hands.
Sure, it’s a
little lot vanilla, with a practical navy color and lacking in memorable details; but if you don’t have a “wear-with-anything” coat, it is very comforting to own something that you know you won’t feel embarrassed being seen in, even under awkward circumstances… (say, running into a colleague at a 7-Eleven at 2AM holding 44oz Slurpees and an armful of snacks).
And it’s not totally devoid of personality: the slightly oversized notch collar adds a small touch of drama, and the 90% virgin wool, 10% cashmere material feels luxe, even if it doesn’t actively repel lint.
Because this coat with an oversized fit isn’t made in petite sizes, those with smaller frames may consider sizing down. (The coat has an ankle-skimming hem on 5’2 me.) Everyone else can take their normal size, which will allow even the chunkiest of layers.
In addition to navy, the Banana Republic Pura Coat is also available in equally classic camel and black.
