Astronomical Summer (+ Supergoop! Reviews)

Happy first day of summer!

One of my resolutions for 2022 is to be more diligent about applying (and reapplying) sunscreen, so to help me achieve this goal, I bought dozens of sunscreen earlier this year in an effort to find products that would make regular sunscreen application convenient.

Shown above are four products from Supergoop! that I keep using up and repurchasing; all four exceed the AAD recommendation of SPF 30+ and provide broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays. Read on for some short reviews:

+ Supergoop! Glow Stick SPF 50 Sunscreen (also sold here, here, here, and here) The Glow Stick is a travel friendly, mess-free option for people (like me!) who will look for every excuse to not reapply sunscreen throughout the day. This sunscreen glides on easily, and doesn’t leave a white cast, making reapplication effortless. It’s also meant to double as a face highlighter, and give a subtle glow. I like this so much I keep a tube in my bag and in the center console of my car. Note that this product is not waterproof so would not be all that useful for beach or pool days.

+ Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 (also sold here, here, here, and here) This is a solid everyday sunscreen that’s perfect for lazy people who prefer a short daytime skincare routine. There is no harsh scent, and the cream feels moisturizing enough that I don’t need to supplement it with additional products. I also find that it interacts well with other skincare and makeup products.

+ Supergoop! CC Screen 100% Mineral CC Cream SPF 50 (also sold here, here, here, and here) As dryness is my number one skin issue, for foundation I prefer a lighter product; I normally opt for BB creams and CC creams, which are generally more moisturizing than a traditional foundation. This mineral CC cream from Supergoop! does a great job smoothing and brightening, and is buildable. I apply this CC cream with a beauty sponge as I find that applying with my fingers results in a cakey appearance.

+ Supergoop! Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 Sunscreen (also sold here, here, here, and here) Supergoop!’s Play Sunscreen is a gold standard for all-purpose sunscreen: it’s easy to apply, has a light scent, is almost invisible/doesn’t leave a white cast (so can be worn easily under makeup), and is water resistant for 80 minutes. I wear this enough that I have an 18 fl. oz quarterly subscription.

If you are struggling with sunscreen reapplication, do give sunscreen sticks a try. In addition to the Supergoop! Glow Stick mentioned earlier, I also really like Shiseido’s Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+.

Enjoy the sun!
