Platform flip flops, fisherman sandals, and summer boots are among the shoe trends making waves this season, but I am eyeing them with some apprehension and will instead rely on the five (tried and true) shoe styles highlighted below this summer.
ESPADRILLES
Espadrilles, or “warm-weather slippers,” are the perfect companion to sundresses. Choose a pair with long ribbon ties for visual interest, or an espadrille/sneaker hybrid for longer treks.
LOAFERS
Loafers are a seasonless staple, but the simple penny loafer feels especially of the moment. They are my go-to work shoe this season.

STRAPPY SANDALS
While strappy sandals are not the most comfortable shoe, I do love how their delicate straps extend the legline and rebalance an outfit. Just make sure to have these on hand to keep blisters away: shoe pads, skin-color athletic tape, moleskin padding, and anti-blister balm.
LOW-TOP WHITE SNEAKERS
Crisp white sneakers complement flirty sundresses as well as they complete an insouciant linen shorts suit look. I pack them for (nearly) every trip I go on and have never regretted the decision.

SLIDE SANDALS
Slide sandals are an elevated (and no less comfortable) alternative to the humble flip flop. Pick one with a modest heel in a vibrant hue to add a pop of color to neutral summer looks.
