Review: J. Crew Classic Field Jacket

Happy first day of September! Even though the first day of fall is still three weeks away, I’ve already unpacked my field jackets and trench coats in preparation for layering weather.

J.Crew‘s Classic Field Jacket has become one of my favorite pieces for transitional weather. I got a lot of wear out of it in the spring and expect to do the same this fall. I like the below-the-hip length (mid-thigh on 5’2 me), which works well with both full-length bottoms and short skirts, and the many small details that elevate this basic to a classic: the corduroy trim at the collar, pocket flap, and sleeves; the internal drawcord at waist; the snap fastened storm flap; and roomy utility patch pockets.

The water- and wind-resistant wax cotton construction is medium-weight, so would be suitable for the dramatic temperature swings that accompany seasonal changes. And the fit is “regular,” so your normal size will easily accommodate medium layers. But you can also size down for a more tailored fit.
