As promised, here are some try-on photos of a few recent Ann Taylor orders. Ann Taylor is currently running a “Winter Blowout Event” and sale styles are up to 80% off online. Shipping is free on orders over $75.
Ann Taylor Floral Smocked Maxi Dress in Navy Onyx
Fit: True to size. (I did not need to size up as seen in the photo above.)
Material: 100% polyester; mid-weight, partially lined.
At-A-Glance: I knew I was taking a gamble ordering this style (there’s a lot of fabric and the print feels a touch “grandma’s couch”) but I’ve been loving all things Victorian-inspired, so ultimately couldn’t resist adding to cart. In the end, granny chic is just not a style I can pull off, and it’s not helped by the fact that the material looks and feels cheap.
Status: Returned
Ann Taylor Crosshatch Puff Sleeve Sheath Dress in Mountain Lavender
Fit: True to size; or, if you are curvier, size up, as the style is more fitted around the bust and hips.
Material: A midweight fabric (66% Polyester, 33% Rayon, 1% Spandex) that is similar in weight to Oxford cloth
At-A-Glance: Lavender is a hard color to get right, but I love the lighter shade and the crosshatch lines, which add dimension to the fabric. The silhouette is timeless, with a demure v-neck to show off pretty neckwear and the inset waistband adds some definition at the waistline.
Status: It’s a keeper! (It’s currently sold out online but those interested should bookmark and check for popbacks.)

Ann Taylor Banded Hem Wrap Top in Winter White
Fit: Slightly small to size
Material: The fabric (87% Polyester, 9% Rayon, 4% Spandex) is a lighterweight fleece material so doesn’t look luxe but is fairly comfortable
At-A-Glance: I loved how this top looks in the stock image, but the fit is surprisingly slim for a style that’s supposed to be relaxed. I also thought the material was a little thin (it’s somewhat see-through in “Winter White”) and unexceptional.
Status: A reluctant keeper (should’ve further sized up, but I didn’t want to return and reorder).
Ann Taylor Side Buttoned Mock Neck Dress in Chocolate Mousse
Fit: Slightly large to size.
Material: A machine-washable midweight fabric (60% Cotton, 40% Modal) that feels smooth to the touch but has stretch.
At-A-Glance: I found this dress extremely underwhelming in real life. Beyond the bagginess (I should’ve sized down), the material is much too fluid for this style, which could benefit from some structure.
Status: Returned
Ann Taylor Button Front Sweater Dress in Deep Emerald Teal
Fit: True to size; no extended size types offered.
Material: A midweight knit (46% Acrylic, 30% Nylon, 24% Polyester) that will undoubtedly pill after a few machine washing cycles and is prone to static cling.
At-A-Glance: This is such a classic piece, with the tie waist, button front details, v-neck, and slightly full sleeves. It’s just too long (~43″ images) and the v-neckline dips too low on 5’2 me.
Status: Returned
Ann Taylor Pearlized Mock Neck Sweater Dress in Pebble Grey Melange
Fit: Slightly small to size
Material: A midweight knit with a felt-like appearance (48% Acrylic, 31% Polyester, 11% Nylon, 7% Wool, 3% Spandex).
At-A-Glance: I love the mock neck and pleated sleeves on this dress, but the material is so prone to static cling (and fleeced lined tights are a must in the winter) that I can’t see myself not tugging at and fussing with the skirt every 3 seconds. And the pearlizede details will make this dress extremely difficult to clean.
Status: Returned
Ann Taylor Ribbed Mock Neck Sweater Shell in Black
Fit: True to size (or size up if you are after a looser fit)
Material: A lightweight (but not see-through) stretchy fabric (51% Viscose, 49% Nylon)
At-A-Glance: One of my favorite purchases of 2020 (just look at the perfect reviews online), the neckline and armscye are cut for comfort and “regular” bras. It’s so so versatile.
Status: It’s a keeper!
Ann Taylor Belted Midi Sheath Dress in Winter White
Fit: True to size
Material: An opaque midweight fabric (64% Polyester, 34% Rayon, 2%Spandex) that will require a thorough steam before first wear.
At-A-Glance: I wasn’t a fan of the design: the sleeves were comically oversized relative to the straighter fit on the bottom and magnified my straighter shape and wider shoulders.
Status: Returned
