Review: J.Crew Long-sleeve Everyday Cashmere Crewneck Dress

When I can’t be in head-to-toe sweats, I have been falling back on sweater dresses, an always cozy but still presentable option. One new(ish) addition to my closet is the J. Crew Long-sleeve Everyday Cashmere Crewneck Dress: it’s not particularly exciting, but is a solid everyday basic that is easy to dress up–or down.

FIT The cut is slim but not body-hugging, and the fit is true-to-size. It has no defined waist so you can add a belt to create a waistline. The dress in size XXS falls to knee-length on 5’2 me.

MATERIAL J. Crew’s “everyday cashmere” is 100% cashmere and lightweight, but is a far cry from Grade A cashmere (which has extra-long fibers and strong yarns). It will likely pill after a few seasons, but starts off soft (I don’t find it scratchy at all) and is not flimsy or clingy.

PRICE The dress retails for $198, but I very rarely recommend J. Crew styles at full-price, because there’s always a sale going on. I consider ~$100 a reasonable price for this dress, though you’ll likely find it on a steeper sale at the end of winter.
