Black tees are a wardrobe staple: wear it under a blazer as workwear, with yoga pants as athleticwear or loungewear, or over culottes as casualwear. But solid t-shirts are everywhere, how do you choose from among <$10 Hanes t-shirts, $1190 Tom Ford ones, and the million options in between? I have a few recommendations today that check boxes for both fit and comfort: Some of my favorite black tees come from Mott & Bow (I featured their crop tee in in this post) so I thought I’d review a few more options for those in the market for new tees.

Mott & Bow Marcy Fitted Crew Tee

The Marcy Fitted Crew Tee is made from a cotton blend (50% Pima cotton and 50% modal) that is lightweight (weighs a little under 5ozs), silky (somewhat slippery and wants to cling to your body), and super soft. The cut is fitted (but not tight) and the length not overly long (even on 5’2 me) so works well tucked in or hanging out, and with all kinds of bottoms, from legging jeans to palazzo pants.

Mott & Bow Marcy Fitted V-Neck Tee

The Macy Fitted V-Neck Tee is identical to the Marcy Fitted Crew Tee except for the neckline, so see above for my comments on the material and fit. As I have a shorter neck, I prefer the v-neckline as it is more visually lengthening and allows naturally for dainty neckwear.

Mott & Bow Marcy Long Sleeve Crew Tee

The silky (feel and) appearance and slimmer fit of Marcy tees make them the perfect layering piece. I especially like to wear the long-sleeve crew tee (made with the same cotton/modal blend used in the other Marcy tees) with a tailored blazer and fitted bottoms: a simple yet foolproof outfit pairing.

Mott & Bow Noble Boxy Semi-Crop Tee

The Noble Boxy Semi-Crop Tee (last seen here) is my favorite tee and I own it in multiple colorways. I like the all-cotton material and cropped fit. The boxy cut is relaxed but doesn’t overwhelm or add bulk, and lends the top an insouciant quality: the rare comfort item that doesn’t ever look sloppy.

And I thought I’d end this post with a few more ideas for how you might style your black tees.:
