Ruffled Cable Knit Sweater

Quay Australia My Girl 50mm Cat Eye Sunglasses (near-perfect dupe here) || Zara Ruffled Cable Knit Sweater (size S; past season) || YSL Wool Skirt (past season) || Free People Solid Kate Faux Fur Coat (size S; also on sale hereherehere, and here) || Prada Medium Saffiano Lux Tote in Caramel (reviewed here) || H&M Leather Boots (similar here and here)

Sweaters are having a moment (as much as something this basic can). They went from something seen as fairly humble and utilitarian to suddenly being as aspirational as a designer handbag. For me, statement sweaters are a silver-bullet solution for (soul-crushingly) one-note cold-weather outfits. With a statement sweater, you can easily elevate even the most basic outfit (like the sweater-and-jeans combo). My favorite silhouette at the moment is cropped, a little boxy, with lightly-puffed sleeves that’s fuller at the top and gathers into a cuff (still regretful that I missed out on this Zimmermann beaut, though I recently ordered this French Connection sweater that looks very similar). I also like a chunky cable knit that’s not heavyweight enough to evoke images of Irish fishing villages.

For those in the market for new sweaters, here are some sweaters that I either own or have wishlisted:
