Weekend Uniform

I like to describe my own style as “classic with a twist,” and what it entails is taking a classic (i.e., basic) combination and tweaking some of the elements to jazz up the look.

Take an outfit comprising staples like a striped top and skinny jeans, which is my go-to for getting coffees or having brunch with friends; it serves as the foundation on which you are free to innovate.

I’ve been “elevating” this reliable combination by pairing it with the colorful tweed topcoats that I picked up last fall, and choosing footwear with gleaming hardware. To winterize the outfit, you can replace the base with a chunky sweater and fleeced-lined jeans.

Crew Oversized Topcoat in English Herringbone Wool (size 0P; I feel this style runs half a size small, so size up if you intend to wear bulkier sweaters with the coat) || Madewell Transport Tote (reviewed here) || Gap 1969 Skinny Jeans (current version here) || Sam Edelman Loraine Bit Loafer (reviewed here)

Below are two iterations of a similar base outfit:

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
