The drape-front trench appeared on store racks again this season, and I am happy to embrace this trend. Since around 2014, this less-structured alternative to “classic” trench coats has given the wardrobe staple more movement and a softer look. Just as I find stiff trench coats to be a perfect foil for flowy dresses and skirts, a silk-y trench with waterfall front drapes contrasts nicely with utilitarian shirts and fitted bottoms.
The cheerful yellow silk trench I am wearing here is currently 40% off at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Theory, and Saks Fifth Avenue. For anyone around my size (5’2), the size P fits me well (if loosely, as designed), with the only noticeable fit issue being the too-long sleeves. It drapes beautifully, though may require a thorough steam to dewrinkle with every other wear.

Here are some other drape front trench coats at various price points:
Have a great week, everyone!
