Dots are whimsical things on print: the larger, rounder, and more uniform dots are, the more juvenile (Minnie Mouse) and dated (50s housewives) the print looks.
With age, my tolerance for dot size has been eroded. These days, the largest spots I am willing to consider are about the size of a nickel, and I prefer that they be reasonably spaced apart.
My favorite kinds of dots are small, like the ones on the Banana Republic blouse that I am wearing in this post. And I blame Marc Jacobs. His Resort 2011 collection convinced me that small dots are superior and eternal, and 7 years later I am still smitten.
