Bumping up this post because the A-line Mini Skirt with Scallop Hem shown here is on sale in a number of colors: Pistachio (petite sizes here), Grey Lilac (also here), Red (also here), Soft Grey (also here), Terracotta, Teal (in tall sizes here), Silver, Blush, Lavender, Mint, and Blue.
Also, the ASOS winter sale must not not be missed. Some picks: Heavy Rib Bardot Skater Dress, City Goddess Pencil Midi Dress With Shoulder Bow Detail (in red here), Club L Bow Back Detail Maxi Dress, Fame and Partners Bardot Maxi Dress with Tie Bow Front, Public Desire Dover Bow Pointed Heeled Shoes, Jumpsuit In Bonded Satin with Bow Detail (also here), John Zack Petite Off Shoulder Mini Dress With Bow Sleeve Detail, and Havana Tie Bow Front Maxi Dress.
I can’t pinpoint what it is about scallop hems that I find so appealing, but I am comforted by the fact that I am not alone in my obsession.
I doubt written history goes back far enough to reveal who first thought to fashion rounded edges as an embellishment or what inspired the idea (some observable manifestation of a sine wave, perhaps?) but much like the popularity the scallop hem enjoyed in the 20s (WW) and the 70s, its appeal has been enduring in the last few years.
One of my favorite scallop-hemmed pieces is the ASOS A-Line Mini Skirt with Scallop Hem, which is currently available in dozens of colors, prints, and materials. The polyester blend (with elastane) from which the skirt is made is easy to care for (i.e., machine washable) and only slightly wrinkle prone.

The skirt runs a full size smaller than other ASOS private label styles; in polyester blend, the skirt measures 12″ across the waist and 16.5″ in length in size 0 (in the cotton blend, the waist measures 11.75″, with an overall length of 17″). The next size up is about an inch wider at the waist, with a negligible difference in length.
Skirt length may be an issue for women who are taller than me (5’2); one possible solution is ordering a larger size which will sit lower on one’s waist.

A slightly more modest option from ASOS that I like is the Wrap Pencil Skirt with Scallop Detail, which runs true to size and is also available in a number of colors.

The versatility of a scalloped skirt like this is that it pairs effortlessly with tops of all styles and prints. Give your outfit a nautical theme by wearing it with a striped shirt or dress it up with a bow-shoulder top.
For fellow scallop fanatics, here are a few more styles that I like: Marysia Broadway Scallop Neck One Piece Swimsuit (on major sale), Carven Scalloped-Collar Shirt, Maison Jules Scallop-Detail Shift Dress, Kendall + Kylie High-Waist Scallop-Hem Shorts, Red Valentino Two-tone Scalloped Coat, and Topshop Scallop Hem Miniskirt.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
