I really like all of the ruffle details on the MINKPINK Garden Party Playsuit Romper (now 70% off and still available in all sizes), and sized up for more coverage on the bottom. If you are concerned about the length, I would advise that you order a size up, as I had. The romper has an elastic waist, no zippers, and is constructed from a lightweight material (100% viscose), making it perfect for summer. I plan to add another snap button to raise the neckline, but it’s quickly becoming a go-to piece for when I can’t decide what to wear.

I am trying to replace a black jersey maxi dress that has been worn to shreds, and the Alternative Racer Back Maxi Dress is one of the top contenders. The fit will require some adjustment to work for me (and other short people), but the straps and length can be shortened relatively easily. I really like how airy the material–50% polyester, 38% organic cotton, 12% rayon–is, and can see it washing and drying well in machines. Fit is true to size, but if you are bottom heavy you may want to size up to achieve the intended look (which is not bodycon).

Another contender to replace my black maxi dress is the LAmade Nola Off Shoulder Maxi, which runs a full size small (though it is intended to be body-hugging). I passed on this because I am looking for something for casual wear, and I know I would not want to wear this on self-critical days. The off-shoulder flap also requires constant adjustment and I can see it growing into a real source of frustration.

And I have been ordering “basic” clothing items from merchants that use Amazon to fulfill orders to try, and unexpectedly fell in love with the MakeMeChic T-Shirt Maxi Dress. The style is cut generously so you can size down (1-2 sizes) for a closer fit, but I like the Rayon/Spandex blend and how well it drapes. I plan to wear a lace camisole or bralette underneath since the neckline dips lower than what I am comfortable with. The dress is ankle-length on me, so may be more midi length on those with long legs.

It’s a fun alternative to a regular black maxi skirt. Because Soprano is a “juniors” brand, order a size up.
