Gray

I’d never loved the color gray growing up. I don’t think I owned anything in gray until I started playing travel soccer in middle school, when I was handed my first gray participation T-shirt at a regional tournament. For years, the grays in my closet were mostly T-shirts I amassed from spirit weeks and sports teams.

In recent years, though, I find myself shunning the bright colors that I used to enjoy, and opting instead for heather versions of quaternary colors. And with these color shifts, I opened my closet to neutral colors. Now I can’t get enough.

And achromatic colors are low-maintenance; if you deal exclusively with them, you can’t clash. Though black and white can be too stark, and trammeled by ceremony. But gray is nuanced, and undefined. It’s especially perfect for days when you feel the urge to blend in with the curtains.
