Black Friday sales have been generally lackluster in recent memory, so it is perhaps unsurprising that consumer spending over the four-day weekend has been down every year since 2013. I think this year’s numbers may buck the trend, as (at least for apparel) retailers are offering one of a kind deals that may sway even the most discerning shoppers.

I was digging through my inbox (I am the opposite of an Inbox Zero’er… or what some might call Inbox 5,000’er, except my unread messages count is an order of magnitude greater; it is not a source of pride), trying to find sale information from 2015, and they were in fact worse than deals offered this year.

Last year: J. Crew offered 30% off regular-priced styles and 40% off sale styles (compared to 40% off storewide this year); Nordstrom did not offer any extra off discounts (compared to an extra 20% off on most sale styles this year); ModCloth did not offer any special discounts aside from free shipping (compared to up to 40% off everything this year); Anthropologie offered a 25% off storewide code (compared to 30% off everything this year); LOFT offered 40% off everything (compared to 50% off everything this year); and Banana Republic ran a 40% off sale (compared to 50% off on five full-priced items this year).

The ones that repeated last year’s offers include Madewell (25% off everything), Zara (30% off everything), Abercrombie & Fitch (50% off everything), Ann Taylor (50% off everything), Club Monaco (up to an extra 35% off), and ASOS (30% off everything).

I am fully shopped out at this point (the Cheesecake Factory offer which I have been saving up for all year just dropped), though would not object to being dazzled by Cyber Monday deals.

For those who are still shopping, I will continue to update, but I don’t think we will see anything interesting until next week.

Enjoy your long weekend!
