A question central to wardrobe management is: what factors determine whether or not an article of clothing belongs in your closet? For me, frequency of wear is important: I have little difficulty parting with pieces that haven’t been worn in more than a year. The only class of items for which I make an exception is special occasions dresses; they are rarely worn more than once, but are often too pretty to part with.

I originally ordered this dress to wear to a friend’s wedding, but part of its appeal to me is that it’s easy to re-style for workplaces with a casual dress code. I am sharing one of my favorite ways to wear it in this post. It also looks great under a tailored blazer, with a matching belt.
