One of my closet workhorses, the J. Crew Promotion Dress, is now on sale for $60 (with code LOTSTOSHOP). The design invites comparisons to my all-time favorite work sheath, the Black Halo Jackie O dress (reviewed here), which I recommend with caveats: the length is not petite friendly and the price, while not prohibitive, is not exactly easily affordable.
The Promotion Dress is extremely attractive at this price point; the three-season material (a cotton/rayon/spandex blend) is slightly stretchy but still structured and not easily wrinkled. It also comes in extended and petite sizes. I especially like the slant side pockets, giving me somewhere to put my hands when I feel the urge to fidget with stuff.
The fit is true to size for J. Crew, though those with larger chests may consider sizing up.

Also worth mentioning is that the Mila Leather Pump (my favorite work pumps at this time) from this post has been restocked in all sizes online. I now own them in all three colors and plan to order the shoes in patent leather as well. This style fits true to size for Ann Taylor or about a half size larger than “expected.”
