Summer is in full swing, so I thought now might be an appropriate time to share a warm weather capsule wardrobe idea.
For the warmer months, comfort and simplicity are the main themes, and my choices here reflect those necessary conditions. I prefer pieces that are machine washable and loose-fitting, without being tent-like.
While having a coherent color scheme is always useful when you have a limited number of pieces to work with, it’s less important for summer sets, since layering is done at a minimum. The decision on color really comes down to: (1) neutral colors and brown or (2) vibrant colors and black; and your choice of metal for accessories.
Here’s what you might consider starting with: (1) slouchy tee (also here) and (1) printed t-shirt—though it isn’t unreasonable to have more than one of each, since they take up little room and can double as pajamas or activewear; (1) denim jacket—a lightweight utility jacket will also work; (1) t-shirt dress; (1) floral dress; (1) off-the-shoulder dress—also consider a one-shoulder dress; (1) flowy maxi dress; (1) pair of shorts—your pick of denim, chino, or linen; (1) white or light-washed jeans; (1) panama hat; (1) printed scarf—I recommend a floral or a soft plaid; (1) sunglasses—I really like these Gucci Round Sunglasses in Caramel, which are also sold here and here; (1) layered necklace; (1) large tote—good for farmers markets and the beach; (1) crossbody bag; (1) slip-on sneakers; (1) skin tone sandals.
Below are fifteen outfits created using these nine pieces (plus two bags, two pairs of shoes, and four accessories):
