I’ve been consulting my own post on packing for summer vacations in anticipation of upcoming trips. I have residual overpacker tendencies that are difficult to weed out completely, so the post is a helpful reminder that packing lightly generally makes trips more uncomplicated and enjoyable.

J. Crew Keeper Chambray Shirt (current season) | Marissa Webb Shorts | Tuckernuck Toucan Hats Navy Packable Wide Bow Sunhat | Madewell Transport Weekender (also here; reviewed here) | Sperry Authentic Original 2-Eye Lace Leather Boat Shoes (also here and here) |
My dad lives in Sperry boat shoes in the summer and while I’ve always liked them on him, it didn’t dawn on me until last year that I could also wear them.
These shoes in women’s sizes run somewhat narrow but will stretch with wear. I normally wear a size 6.5/7, ordered these in a size 7M, and found that they initially pinched the widest parts of my feet (these shoes are also available in wide). After two weeks (and no more than 10 hours of total wear), the shoes stretched enough to become comfortable.

Sperry Authentic Original Boat Shoe in Nutmeg/Sahara |
Priced at $95, the “Authentic Original” is a Sperry classic so rarely goes on sale in seasonless colors like the “Nutmeg” (or “Sahara”) pictured above. Seasonal colors can often be found on sale, but the best discounts on classic colors rarely exceed 25% (though you can often find them at 15% off).
Buy them from Nordstrom, Sperry, Amazon, Dillard’s, and Macy’s.
