|Kate Spade Lydia Heels & Go Fly a Kite Mini Luggage Crossbody|
This mini luggage crossbody is one of the least practical purchases I have made. Ever. Its general purposelessness doesn’t affect how I feel about it though.
If the larger version were still available, I might have gotten that. But in its absence, I am happy to own this tiny toy bag. Its chief and only flaw is that it is too small to be useful, and the top clasp closure won’t work easily when the bag is near capacity.
But emphasizing its uselessness would obscure the larger point, which is: how much weight should be given to “utility” when it comes to handbags? I mean, just look at this miniature bag pretending to be luggage. I can’t stop smiling when I ponder the absurdity of it. It’s also a great conversation piece in the right company.
The bag is beautifully made (for Kate Spade)—the gold-tone hardware and the stamped leather are both good quality. And if you look at this bag as adornment, and not as a storage unit, you won’t mind that it doesn’t fit the modern-day smartphone (but will fit keys, a coin purse, and maybe a chapstick if you arrange things just right).
The bag measures 6″W x 3.5″H x 2.5″D, with a 3″ top handle and an adjustable shoulder/crossbody strap (21-23″). It weighs about a pound empty.
