Off-the-Shoulder (+ ASOS Premium Scuba Midi Dress & ASOS Double Ruffle Pencil Dress Reviews)

Wedding season is close on the horizon. While I am excited to join friends in celebrating their milestones, wedding guest dress shopping is not the easiest task. I intend to recycle a few reliable outfits, but window-shopping nevertheless led to some discretionary purchases. While many dresses were immediate returns, this Off The Shoulder Midi Dress, constructed out of scuba material, is a potential keeper.

I love the in-seam pockets, the crossover, drop-shoulder neckline (perfect for costume jewelry), and the flared, pleated bottom, but the color is a tad very junior prom/Disney princess.

ASOS’s “scuba” fabric has some amount of give so I sized down (wearing UK04/US0 here, on more formfitting styles I usually take a UK6/US2).

Sizing is incomplete online in this style but a similar dress (in pink, blue, or a floral print) is available.

And while I would never think to wear something white to a wedding, I added the Double Ruffle Midi Pencil Dress to my order, thinking it would be a fun summer number. The material (light- to medium-weight) was more transparent than I anticipated, and the style not the most flattering on my straighter shape—I think this would be a good choice on someone more shapely. I would say this style fits TTS to half a size small.

ASOS is running a tiered discount event until Monday night (03/28/2016; midnight P.T.); take $30 off purchases of $150 with code MARCH30, $50 off $200 with code MARCH50, and $70 off $250 with code MARCH70.

Some quick reviews for items that I returned but did not snap pictures of: Bandeau Crop Top Skater With Wide Straps (currently on a great sale. Fits TTS; bodice has some structure. The tie neck straps were unflattering on me and seem to accentuate underarm flab), Structured Mini Shirt Dress (I liked the design and the color, but did not order the right size. Those between sizes can size down), Wrap Front Romper with Long Sleeves (an affordable, no-frills romper in a low-maintenance fabric. I thought the length in petite was borderline indecent on me so may order this in a size up if I can’t find anything better), Tulip Dress with Wrap Belt (really wanted to keep this, but I couldn’t figure out how to wrap the belt in a flattering way on me. Now on sale), Cami Maxi Dress with Pleated Skirt (I really wanted to love this, but the material was underwhelming and the cheapness shows), and Contrast Raglan Swing Dress (fits TTS but the cut is loose. The material was kind of flimsy; this was a return for me because there are similar styles out there that are a better value).
