Late fall has been kind to the American northeast; I haven’t seen snow since those flurries back in October, which means that my rain boots have (so far) been sufficient in wetter conditions.
I have been wearing these Chooka Rainboots in matte black frequently with faux leather pants; the matte finish of the boots dulls the gaudiness and gleam characteristic of most rubber rain boots.

I was initially concerned that the mid-calf length would have a truncating effect on my legs, but in the right outfit that worry is unwarranted.
While these boots do run about half a size large (whole sizes only), I did not size down, as recommended by most online reviewers, because I prefer to wear extra thick socks with rain boots to keep my feet warm (I highly recommend these Smartwool socks, a worthwhile splurge) so find that my normal size fit well.
While these boots may not be the optimal choice for those with very slim calves, they have adjustable straps that will fit most calves.
The leather buckles are a fun touch, as is the printed textured lining, which I’ve found absorbs moisture. I haven’t been able to find other rain boots that are a better value for under $70. I do want to caution that the boots are heavy, which doesn’t bother me, but some of you may find them clunky.
In short, these boots are a great value at $70, come in only whole sizes (most people chose to size down), look more like leather boots than rubber boots from a distance, and have adjustable straps that adapt the width of the shaft to fit most calves. They are currently on sale in seasonal colors here, here, here, and here.
