A few friends and I had the “are shorts work appropriate” discussion recently; the conclusion drawn was: if your job allows it. Granted I don’t know anyone who has ever been dismissed because of a dress code violation, some urban myth had it that a poor soul took the advice of a fashion dos-and-don’ts at face value and paid dearly for it.
I think a good rule of thumb for any question that leads with “Do you think I should…” is: if you have to ask, you probably shouldn’t.

Having said that, if your job allows it, shorts can add much-needed variety to summer work wardrobes. I almost always wear shorts with a button down and a blazer to offset their casualness.
