Seersucker on Stripe

A few friends and I had the “are shorts work appropriate” discussion recently; the conclusion drawn was: if your job allows it. Granted I don’t know anyone who has ever been dismissed because of a dress code violation, some urban myth had it that a poor soul took the advice of a fashion dos-and-don’ts at face value and paid dearly for it.

I think a good rule of thumb for any question that leads with “Do you think I should…” is: if you have to ask, you probably shouldn’t.

Having said that, if your job allows it, shorts can add much-needed variety to summer work wardrobes. I almost always wear shorts with a button down and a blazer to offset their casualness.

Until midnight tonight, take 40% off at Banana Republic and the Gap with code BIGTIME. Some picks:

Banana Republic: Navy Lightweight Wool V-Neck Sheath, Heritage Cropped Trench, , Ponte Cross-Back Fit-and-Flare Dress, Roland Mouret Collection Strappy Sheath, Oxford Shirtdress, Gemma Wrap Dress, and Metallic-Trim Parisian Jacket.

The Gap: Stripe Knit Pencil Skirt, Sunkissed Scallop-Hem Shorts, 1969 Western Denim Shirtdress (ordered; despite lukewarm reviews), Split-neck Baseball Tee, and Rugby Fit & Flare Dress.
