Free People Peplum Top

I can’t be more pleased with the Free People Peplum Top (half off at Shopbop in two colors) and plan to eventually acquire a few more in different colors (this striped variation looks interesting). The fit is a little unusual but it’s a fun alternative to a regular tee.

The torso is short and loose (I am wearing size XS in the picture below) but the sleeves fairly fitted and this contrast was mentioned repeatedly in reviews as a point of irritation. A similar design with fluted sleeves was released recently and may be a better choice for those who like the consistency of loose sleeve/loose torso better.

A short-sleeved version can be found here.

And a few more quick and blurry (the latter of which is unintentional) phone picture reviews:

My last Club Monaco order, which comprised the Claudia Leather Gloves, Betia Wool Cropped Pant, Nora Jacket, and Sybil Textured Sweater was 50% successful. The two items pictured below were returned because neither the cut nor the fabric was flattering on me. The Nora Jacket in particular was disappointing because of how stiff the material was (which is expected given that it’s a linen/cotton blend but nowhere near deserving of its original $249 price tag).

Nora Jacket | Chili Pepper | Size 00

And my Shopbop order was also somewhat disappointing with the exception of the abovementioned We The Free Solid Peplum Tee; I was especially displeased with the Lovers + Friends Lovely Top whose fabric mirrors that of shower curtains. “Nude” is a lovely pale pink if somewhat unflattering on those with yellow undertones (a day will come when I’ll accept the reality that pale pink tops and I just can’t be together).

And for those interested in oversized overlapping tops but didn’t like the Forever 21 Twisted Wrap Top and Nasty Gal Turn It Loose Top that I blogged about in my last shopping update, this Tobi one falls somewhere between Forever 21 and Nasty Gal in price. I like the drapey-ness of it but the material is gossamer thin. I also ordered this top in gray and ivory and would not recommend the latter unless transparency is the goal.

BB Dakota styles tend to run a bit smaller than mall brands but there’s no need to size up for the Joanna Pencil Skirt. I expected the fit to be more form-fitting but will probably get this altered to fit better. The size 0 measured about 12.5″ across the waist and 16.5″ across the hip (can’t remember the overall length; if you are interested leave a comment below and I’ll re-measure).

I’ve also been strangely drawn to jumpsuits recently and ordered a bunch to try back in November/December. Yes, they are impractical (Using the bathroom presents an interesting challenge) but I can’t be dissuaded.

These two ASOS jumpsuits were not keepers (the first because of its resemblance to a karategi and the second because I ordered it two sizes too small). The material (for both styles) is unremarkable so just assimilate visual information concerning style/design.

I couldn’t zip this next one up because it’s about two sizes too small (ASOS’s addition of an UK2 threw off the size chart for me) but I can see it being a cute choice in the right size.

ASOS Petite Exclusive Bandeau Jumpsuit | UK2

In spite of a few failed experiments, I am not entirely discouraged. I plan to try the following ASOS options: Kigu Rabbit Onesie (jk, but it is cute!), Tux Jumpsuit, Mango Wrap Detail Jumpsuit, , John Zack Jumpsuit In Monochrome, Only Short Sleeve Jumpsuit, and Love Belted Jumpsuit with Wrap Front.

Happy shopping!
