Metallics and Pastels (+ Zara Messenger Bag with Metallic Fastener Review)

This outfit is from a few weeks ago (still working to clear a three-week backlog but I am in full on winter mode at this point; wool coat, gloves, boot socks, thermals, the whole nine yards).

This Alice + Olivia shimmery number is one of my favorite purchases last year (though sadly did not make the top 10) but I’ve always found it unflattering on me. There’s something mildly off about the flare of the A-line skirt and the length of the cap sleeve on me. I’ve considered alterations in the past but fear something irreversible and undesirable might be done and I didn’t want to take the chance.

I’ve only really ever worn it with a jacket or a coat on top but recently have been getting more use out of it by wearing it with sweaters or skirts.

I urge you all to consider adding something sparkly (does not have to be sequins!) to your closet this winter; you won’t regret it!

And I thought I’d throw this short Zara Messenger Bag with Metallic Fastener review in with this outfit post because it has sat in my draft folder for months now and may never see the light of day at this rate.

I don’t think the bag is worth $59.90 in workmanship or material alone but with Zara you are always
paying a small premium for trendiness. Still, even then I would have a hard
time parting with three Jackson’s for this.

The strap is unadjustable and works as a crossbody for a shorter person (I am 5’2). The top zipper felt flimsy to me so I would be careful not to be too brutish with it.

The concept is cute enough but the cheapness of the material really becomes apparent upon a closer inspection of the bag.

But it is a fun design and the color is really beautiful so you be the judge in determining if practicality or attractiveness wins out in this case.

A few other options from Zara to consider if this one doesn’t make the cut but you are looking to add a smaller, cheaper bag to your collection.
