In my closet hang twenty or so items that I would describe as…clutter. Allow me to explain:
These articles of clothing complement only one or two other items in my closet, rendering
them particularly expendable. There’s an analogy begging to be drawn
between these items and single-purpose kitchen appliances.

This skirt is the egg-cooker of clothes. The only thing in my closet that “goes” with it is this
chunky H&M sweater. I hesitate to hem and slim this skirt because it
currently fits me in the waist with this sweater tucked into it.
Special
occasion dresses aside (though one can make the argument that renting
cocktail dresses is more practical than owning them), do single-purpose
clothing items have a place in any closet? Or should they be promptly sold or
donated?

Another shout-out to the J. Crew sale because I unexpectedly received a holiday reward from J. Crew despite having bought nothing from it in recent memory. Armed with this rewards card, I made a rather large purchase (wait, was that the rewards card’s intended purpose?).
My order comprised the Cambridge Cable Chunky Turtleneck Sweater (which I already own in yellow and love), Smartphone Leather Gloves (a great holiday gift), and Pleated Skirt in Butterfly.
And Neiman Marcus’s first cut sale has started and it is dangerous. Just about everything on my watchlist went on sale: RED Valentino Short-Sleeve Sweetheart Dress, A+O Flora Chevron Blouse with Tie, Theory Innis Cable-Knit Sweater, Donna Karan Crepe Bow-Waist Jacket (stunning but still out of my price range), and Nanette Lepore La Rambla Lace Dress.
Also worth a look are RED Valentino Floral-Print Snap-Front Coat, C&C Faux-Leather Combo Moto Jacket, Johnny Was Rose Garden Georgette Dress (can’t decide if this is ethereal or eccentric), Vince Hooded Leather Jacket, and RED Valentino Sleeveless Drop-Waist Dress.
Equally noteworthy/dangerous is Saks’s Sneak Peek Sale, which started today. Here are my picks: RED Valentino Jewel-Print Topper, RED Valentino Cropped Leather Jacket, RED Valentino Leather Bow-Accented Moto Jacket, RED Valentino Full-Skirted Coat, DvF Zarita Dress, RED Valentino Jewel-Print Dress, Nanette Lepore Merry Go Round Lace Top, A+O Natalia Scalloped Lace Fit-&-Flare Dress, RED Valentino Taffeta Puffer Coat, RED Valentino Hooded Nylon Parka, and Theory Frayda Danish Leather Jacket.
For those who don’t mind shopping the kid’s section: Milly Girl’s Bonded Wool Blend Coat, Ralph Lauren Girl’s Tweed Princess Coat, Burberry Girl’s Leather-Sleeved Trenchcoat, Burberry Girl’s Double-Breasted Trench Dress, Marc Jacobs Girl’s Tweed Dress, and Ralph Lauren Girl’s Classic Mac Jacket.
I picked up the RED Valentino Napa Leather Moto Jacket from Nordstrom and will be reviewing it later this month.
November is shaping up to be a discount-heavy month so pace yourself!
