The ISSA Long Sleeve Wrap Dress was made an instant classic by the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly known as Kate Middleton. She wore the dress in navy to her engagement announcement and solidified its place in history as a symbol of timeless elegance.

(Kate hasn’t worn the label recently and this may be why).

I have long been a fan of this dress but found the ~$700 price tag somewhat hard to swallow. Late last year, when Gilt hosted a timed sale featuring this British label, I picked up two styles to try.

The ISSA short-sleeve silk draped dress was beautifully made but the smallest size it came in was a US4, which was much too long (and loose in places) on 5’2 me.

The long-sleeve wrap dress in size 2 was a considerably better fit but in haste I accidentally wrapped the dress too tightly on myself which resulted in this sausage-casing effect (seen below) that wasn’t entirely flattering. What I didn’t love was the peacock blue which just isn’t a good color on me in bulk.

When ISSA announced its collaboration with Banana Republic, I secretly hoped this iconic wrap dress would be included in the collection and was not disappointed. I didn’t think the BR iteration would be made to the same quality standards as ISSA retail styles but am almost certain the fit will be considerably better for those who don’t fall on the “average” height/weight spectrum.

I can’t wait for a great coupon to come along so I can add something from the collection to my closet!

There appears to be confusion over the color “tulum turquoise.” I found a picture (below) that seems to portray the color accurately. I will update this post as reviews trickle in.

And, at last, we have confirmation! Banana Republic updated the product page and changed “Tulum Turquoise” to “Royal Blue.” Eyewitnesses say the dress is not literally “Royal Blue” but has some yellow in its composition which gives it a green undertone.

Thank you Rosie, Jessica, Eunny, and Sheila for the various updates and links.

The collection officially launches tomorrow but some links have been made available for shoppers who can’t wait even a moment longer. The collection is officially online, shop it here.

Most coupons I found online don’t work on this collection but 1AUG35 works (35% off  full-priced purchases) and so does the new subscriber discount (for 25% off; sign up for BR emails with a new e-mail address). These codes can be combined.

Happy shopping!
