Review: J. Crew Lady Jacket in Double Serge Wool

I picked up the Lady Jacket in Double-Serge Wool (in a bulk order I will eventually review in full) back in September for my mom as cropped jackets are flattering on her smaller-shouldered frame.

When I received it in the mail, I was struck by how eerily familiar the material was to me. A quick look in my closet revealed that the jacket was made in the same material as the No. 2 Pencil Skirt that I picked up last winter. For a second I wanted to keep the jacket for myself as I enjoy the idea of owning “sets” of things.

The jacket comes in three colors – the spicy gold reviewed here, heather carbon, and berry pink –  of which I like the spicy gold most as I think the color is versatile and flattering on a variety of skin colors.

The 00P measures 18″ in total length, 14.5″ across the shoulders, 16.5″ from underarm to underarm and has 17″ long sleeves.

On me I think the jacket is not particularly flattering as I have proportionately wider shoulders and the style of the jacket accentuates that feature. I returned this jacket after snapping these pictures and ordered a size up for my mom (the sleeves were a bit too narrow for her arms).

Do you like your jackets tailored or boxy?
