Shoe Lust : Diane von Furstenberg Zia Platform Sandal

It’s always a struggle for me finding a pair of comfortable sandals with a bit of height for spring. It surprisingly took me only three tries to get it right this year.

I don’t doubt that many of you will find these to be an ill fit so it’s important to try it from a store with a good return and exchange policy (think Zappos and Endless).

The Zia platform sandals have adorned the feet of many famous women but I’ve always felt they were a bit expensive for my purpose (I ruin at least one pair of sandals a year from running around in them in all kinds of terrain). I had ordered two pairs to try, not expecting to love them as much as I did.

The Zia sandals are a Diane von Furstenburg classic and have been released every season in an assortment of colors. I ordered the slate (more of a seafoam) and fawn (tan) for their versatility as spring and summer shoes. I also loved the marigold as well as the Royal Blue.

At 5 inches tall with an inch platform, the shoes are hardly what many would call practical. However, they feel rather comfortable despite their height and if you are used to wearing 3- or 4-in pumps without platforms you should have no problem strutting around in these.

I have always been told that DvF shoes run narrow but these shoes feel true to size. I ordered size 7 (in pumps I am between 6.5/7) and find that while I can probably size down to 6.5, the size 7 is a decent fit.

The elastic at the heel keep the shoes tightly on the feet but not so tightly that they chafe the heel. The leather is soft and nonrestrictive.

I ended up keeping the slate but returned the fawn because I really shouldn’t hoard “fun” shoes in duplicates.

What are your favorite sandals for Spring?
