Review: Ann Taylor and J. Crew Blouses

I want to share with you some of my recent blouse purchases. As always, online shopping results in major hits and misses.

From left to right: Overlapping Placket Long Sleeve Blouse, Suzette Blouse and Silk Lucinda Blouse

Overlapping Placket Long Sleeve Blouse – 00P – Crisp Nougat

I had previously expressed on this blog how much I like my Ann Taylor Overlapping Placket Blouse in Palomino and proceeded to order the same blouse in Crisp Nougat which is a pretty pink color (in person it’s a mixture of mauve and pink so less “girly”). It’s a versatile blouse (see on Ping here) with only a few downsides, among them is poor craftsmanship along the side seams. It’s also very thin and snags easily so I always try to be extra careful when I wear it.

Ann Taylor Petite Cotton Long Sleeve Perfect Shirt with Satin Placket – 00P – White

A crisp white button-down is a must-have for every professional wardrobe. I had ordered the Perfect Long Sleeve Blouse a few weeks ago but there was significant gaping between the buttons so I had to send it back. I was elated when I saw this shirt because the added satin placket actually conceals the gaping. This one is a keeper!

J. Crew Silk Lucinda Blouse – 0P – Deco Blue

I really wanted to love this blouse but I didn’t. The blouse came very wrinkly and I haven’t had a chance to steam it yet. It was final sale so I have no choice but to keep it. This style runs big, even for J. Crew.

J. Crew Suzette Blouse – 00 – Ripe Melon (also available in a print pattern)

This blouse is by far the biggest disappointment of the batch, I had loved it in the catalog but in person it was just mediocre. I am not sure what I was expecting but this blouse just did not wow me. I can understand why this is a catalog/online only special because this is not something I would be attracted to in a store. I really need to start reading the descriptions online more carefully because there are a few buzz words that would usually deter me from ordering, in this case, it was “crinkled chiffon.”

On an unrelated note, I want to give a shout-out to two new petite bloggers: Violet and Pauline. I am already a fan!
