OOTD: Happy Election Day

Happy election day!

I’ll admit it. I don’t follow municipal elections as diligently as I should so I spent all of last night poring over candidate information and their policy platforms. In a tumultuous time like the one we live in today, it’s ever so important to make our voices heard and our votes count. Making an informed decision is difficult and time consuming, especially when, at times, all candidates appear anemic in capactiy. Still, we must believe that we can effect change in the world.

I live in Connecticut, where voter turnout for municipal elections is a measly 20-30%. It’s astounding how little people believe in the power of democracy. Change usually starts small so I have trust in rebuilding our infrastructure at the local level.

Same day registration is available in the states of Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. So if you reside in those states and have not registered to vote, it’s not too late.

For future reference, North Dakota does not require that you register prior to voting. Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Utah, Oregon, Louisiana and Washington allow voters to register online (deadlines vary).

Lastly,  I highly recommend Electionland for voting information by state.
