The bf and I went down to a waterfront park in one of the river towns on Sunday – pizza in hand – and enjoyed a scarce peaceful moment by the murky waters.
Yesterday marked the ten year anniversary of 911 and that day, to quote Roosevelt, is one that will live in infamy. There are some memories that will never fade and 911 was truly unforgettable. I remember exactly where I was, what I was doing, how I felt and if I try hard enough can almost smell the strange mix of salty tears and despair in that auditorium where the headmaster broke the news to a room of anxious kids.
If I close my eyes I can almost see their faces again – the frightened looks on friends whose parents had worked in the twin towers. I remember pushing through crowds of kids searching for the nearest phone so they can talk to their loved ones only to find that the phone lines were jammed.
It was the day when so much of what we thought to be true was called into question.
