For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together.  For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad – Edwin Way Teale

The temperature here in my corner of the Northeast dipped into the low 40’s last night and the first fall chill has me scrambling to layer on all those summery pieces that failed to receive much love this summer. Fall is perhaps my favorite season as far as clothes go but I am sad to lose the luxury of sleeping with the windows open.

The J. Crew Maritime Dress has been on my radar for some time now but $88 for a blue and white striped dress seemed excessive to me when there are similar looks for less. I am not opposed to paying more for “classic” pieces but the J. Crew version wasn’t so special that it warranted paying the markup. The Forever 21 version, on the other hand, is much more wallet friendly at $9.50. It is marketed as a “tunic” but on 5’2″ me is just a bit short but not indecently so. Also comes in a longer dress version here and as a skirt (long and short) here.
