Giving High Gloss Fashion The Old College Try

I am always on the hunt for new online retailers that have the goods to feed my closet monster. I knew I had to order when I stumbled across High Gloss Fashion last week. They opened for business on January 24, 2011 and while the selection is slim there are quite a few cute things that can be had.

(I have a Wear It Five Ways post planned for this skirt tomorrow or Thursday)

$5 standard flat rate by USPS Priority in the 48 contiguous states; $10 to Alaska, Hawaii and APO/FPO.

They also offer 3-day, 2-day and overnight service. But shipping is steep if you want expedited service.

I received the package two days after I placed my order and from my own experience it doesn’t seem like they are making much money off shipping. No fancy packaging a la Gilt or Revolve but for $5 it wasn’t bad.

21-day window, with original tags. Final sale on gift cards, intimates, jewelry, sunglasses, items marked down 30% or more, etc. (go here for details)

Similar Stores:

This new retailer reminds me of Karmaloop; There is quite a bit of overlap in terms of brands. Karmaloop has a wider selection but shipping is often slower. I would say High Gloss Fashion has better customer service just based on the few exchanges I had with their customer care representatives.

Nothing on sale yet. They are currently offering 40% off your total purchase (code: GET40). Discount expired.

I would say they are priced fairly. The BB Dakota James Tulle Skirt that I ordered was $60 on High Gloss Fashion, $65 on BB Dakota, $59 on Revolve Clothing (out of stock at post time), $65 on Tee-Zone, $54 on Karmaloop (only available in S-L), $58 at Lori’s Shoes, and $64.99 on ModCloth (only M is left). Usually for a small retailer the price can be hyper inflated because they are unable to order in a significant enough quantity.

(p.s. note that ModCloth renamed the skirt Pas de Trois Skirt…it seems to be selling well because the stock photo is appealing and it evokes a more romantic image compared to the James Tulle Skirt).

Final Words:

I think I would order again when their inventory and selection grow a bit more. I like the flat rate shipping and the promptness of their response.

Disclaimer: I paid for the skirt myself and received no compensation from High Gloss Fashion for this review. This is my honest opinion. There are Shopstyle links in the post and if you click on the link I make a small commission.
